Asthma Education at TLC

Asthma Educator - Sonia Bola

Sonia completed her Respiratory Therapy Diploma in 2015 from Thompson Rivers University in Kamloops, BC. She completed a Respiratory Educator Certificate in 2019 and a Tobacco Educator Certificate in 2020. She’s worked as an acute-care Respiratory Therapist at the University Hospital of Northern B.C. in Prince George, Eagle Ridge Hospital in Coquitlam, Abbotsford Regional Hospital in Abbotsford and Ridge Meadows Hospital in Maple Ridge. As an acute-care Respiratory Therapist she administered inhaled medications, set ventilators, provided oxygen, managed tracheostomy patients, provided airway management, spirometry testing, and home oxygen assessments.

 

She then went into community care for 2 years as a Community Respiratory Therapist for Fraser Health.  As a community respiratory therapist, she focused on keeping clients who had respiratory conditions healthy at home. Her services would include providing lung disease education, tracheostomy education, inhaler education, mucus clearance education, home oxygen assessments and managing lung flare-ups.  She’s also worked at a couple of sleep apnea clinics across the lower mainland.  At The Lung Centre, Sonia works as the Asthma and COPD Education Coordinator. She provides education on Asthma, COPD and Bronchiectasis.
