Asthma Education Program

Virtually everyone with asthma should be able to go about their daily activities with little to no discomforts from asthma symptoms. Understanding asthma makes this possible. The asthma education program gives clients and their families the knowledge and skills they need to help self-manage their chronic disease.

 

Attend the asthma education program to learn:

  • What asthma is

  • Asthma symptoms and what they mean

  • Triggers that worsen asthma and how to avoid them

  • The roles of asthma medications and how to use inhaler devices properly

  • How to monitor your asthma with a peak flow meter

  • To learn how to follow a personalized action plan

 

Clients who attend the asthma education program meet one on one with a Certified Respiratory Educator/Respiratory Therapist who will help them to gain the confidence they need to better control their asthma through education, counselling and individual guidance.

COPD Education Program

Although Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) cannot be cured the COPD Education program can help clients and their families self-manage their disease by learning about a tailored treatment plan and teaching them strategies that can help manage daily activities that can lead to an active and fulfilling lifestyle.

 

Attend the COPD education program to learn:

  • What COPD is

  • Smoking cessation strategies and resources

  • Self-management strategies such as breathing techniques and exercise

  • The role of COPD medications and how to use inhaler devices properly

  • Recognizing signs and symptoms of flare up of COPD and how to use a personalized action plan

Clients who attend the COPD education program meet one on one with a Certified Respiratory Educator/Respiratory Therapist who will help them to gain the confidence they need to better control their COPD through education, counselling and individual guidance.

To meet with a Certified Respiratory Educator/Respiratory Therapist for the Asthma and COPD Education Programs the client must first be referred to a Lung Centre Respirologist. NEW CENTRE POLICY ON LATE CANCELLATIONS AND NO SHOWS:

We require a minimum of 2 business days notice for any cancellations or rescheduling of appointments.

 

If you do not show up for your appointment and do not contact our office, it is within the clinic’s right to charge you a missed appointment fee $50.
