Suffering from a respiratory illness can be debilitating. Whether your illness is chronic or acute, our professional team of registered and certified physicians, educators and technicians is equipped to handle a comprehensive range of respiratory conditions and injuries.

Our walk-in laboratory is accredited by the Diagnositic Accreditation Program, with oversight from the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC. Our services have met rigorous standards for quality control and patient safety. ​You can be assured – we have a commitment to excellence when it comes to the level of care we provide.

RESPIRATORY MEDICINE

The Lung Centre specializes in the treatment of pulmonary conditions such as asthma, emphysema, chronic bronchitis, bronchiectasis, lung cancer, occupational and environmental lung diseases, sarcoidosis, pnuemonia, tuberculosis, pulmonary hypertension, interstitial lung disease, pleural disease and respiratory neuromuscular disorders (get referred).

WALK-IN LABORATORY

Walk-in laboratory testing is available to any patient with a referral from a physician. Tests include: spirometry (pre and post bronchodilator), oximetry (resting and walking) and skin testing (for respiratory triggers). Patients are tested in order of arrival.

COPD CLINIC

This program is provided as a free service and our goal is to assist clients to gain confidence and better control over their COPD through education, counseling, and guidance. The COPD Clinic at Vancouver Hospital is a flexible, practical program, individually tailored to every patient’s needs. We hope to help our clients understand COPD, learn and practice the skills necessary to manage COPD, and be supported for adopting appropriate COPD management behaviors.

AIRWAYS EDUCATION

Virtually everyone with asthma should be able to go about his or her daily activities with little or no discomfort from symptoms. Understanding asthma makes this possible. Our Asthma and COPD Education programs aim to give clients the knowledge and skills needed to confidently and appropriately manage their asthma or COPD (learn more).

SKIN TESTING

Understanding what triggers your bronchial hyperresponsiveness is an important step towards controlling your symptoms and reducing asthma attacks.  The Lung Centre offers skin testing services to help better identify possible triggers. PH CLINIC

The Pulmonary Hypertension program at the Vancouver General Hospital is a multi-disciplinary clinic specializing in the diagnosis and management of pulmonary vascular diseases. The PH program is composed of Respirologists, Cardiologists, Rheumatologists, as well as nurse practitioner/registered nurses and research coordinators (learn more)

PULMONARY FUNCTION

The Lung Centre has laboratory services offering spirometry, oximetry, skin testing, six minute walk testing, arterial blood-gas sampling, sputum inductions and FENO tests.  These services are only available with a referral from a Lung Centre Respirologist. The walk-in laboratory service offers testing for patients with a referral from any physician.

SMOKING CESSATION

Stopping smoking can make a big difference to your health and it's never too late to stop. The earlier you quit, the less risks you have of smoking related disease - but no matter when you quit, you will still be reducing your risks and improving your health. At The Lung Centre, we have specialized Educators to provide one-to-one smoking cessation support (learn more)

RESPIRATORY RESEARCH

The Lung Centre is active in pulmonary research and on-going clinical drug trials. If you have asthma or COPD (emphysema or chronic bronchitis), are over eighteen years of age and are interested in participating in the clinical trials, please call 604-875-4111 local 67915 and leave a message for the trial coordinator.
